Feeding Colorado is the partner state association of the five Feeding America food banks that serve Colorado and Wyoming. Our mission is to improve food security in Colorado through policy, advocacy, partnership, and education. Feeding Colorado’s connections, vast network, and years of experience mean we can leverage funds to make a deep impact.
During unprecedented times, food banks and our network of partners show up when and where we’re needed most. From a global pandemic to persistent inflation, we’ve remained steadfast in nourishing our communities with inspired support from people like you. We’re facing challenging times yet again. Over the past few months, food banks have absorbed reductions to federally funded food programs with some losing 7% of their total food supply while need is at a 10+ year high. Our food distributions are seeing a spike in visitors and in some cases 20% more attendance when compared to this time last year.
A continuing government shutdown will increase need even more. Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP; also known as food stamps) benefits will not be issued at the beginning of November if the shutdown extends past October 24. The state of Colorado receives about $120M monthly through the federal government to distribute to SNAP benefit recipients. That means that nearly 615,000 Coloradans, half of whom are children, may not get the food assistance funds they depend on for groceries to get through the month or could see a delay in getting their benefits.
By giving to Feeding Colorado or one of our partner food banks, you’ll help deliver meals to neighbors impacted by this crisis. We are gearing up for that surge and need your support more than ever to meet this moment. Please consider giving today. $1 helps us distribute enough food for three meals. Every gift makes a difference.
